Catherine Daron

After obtaining a first prize in transverse flute in Michel Lefebvre's class at the Koninklijk Muziek Conservatorium in Brussels, Catherine Daron was awarded, unanimously by the jury, the Superior Diploma in traverso under the direction of Barthold Kuijken. A founding member of the Menus-Plaisirs du Roy, she participated with this group in various recordings and in numerous productions (Atis travesty, Alceste, Persée, La Fille mal Gardée...) and, this in the biggest festivals devoted to baroque music. Catherine Daron also plays with other ensembles: Il Cortegiano, (with which she recorded a CD of music from the Italian Renaissance), La Grande Ecurie and la Chambre du Roy, under the direction of Jean-Claude Malgloire, etc.

In order to broaden her practice, mainly oriented towards official and aristocratic music under the Ancien Régime, Catherine Daron decided to turn to the musette which offers, at any time, the advantage of traveling pleasantly on the often tenuous border between the popular and the scholarly. She currently gives courses in transverse flute and traverso at the Academies of Boitsfort and Overijse.
